Traffic could be a nightmare if you are far from your job. I seriously have more LGBT ?️*? friends here than I did in NYC and Florida.Ĥ) Phoenix is a very large sprawling city. They have meetups at various locations mostly in the downtown area. There are some Facebook groups that you could join to meet people such as Fierce Friends of Phoenix. There is a larger concentration of gay bars in that area. I find that downtown and midtown Phoenix more so than the other areas. You won’t want to walk in the summer.ģ) Phoenix and Tempe is pretty much live and let live. Remember the Light Rail runs through the midtown and downtown areas. First Friday’s are held in that area with bars, galleries and restaurants. The job market is doing well.Ģ) Roosevelt between 7th Ave and 7th St is the Arts District. So I have a few questions about Phoenix.ġ) What is the job market like for IT/tech support right now?Ģ) I know Phoenix isn't known for its walkability or urbanity, but what are the trendy walkable urban districts in Phoenix?ģ) How gay friendly is the city? How easy is it to meet people and how active is the scene? I really want to live somewhere that offers ways to meet other people that aren't gay bars or phone apps.Ĥ) What negatives should I be aware of about Phoenix other than the ones everyone knows (like the summer heat and the sprawl)?ġ) Although I don’t work in IT, the economy in Phoenix is good. And it is much cheaper to live there than Denver from my research so far. In addition, it's pretty exciting to think about having all of the outdoor amenities available that Arizona has to offer. 9 months out of the year are absolutely amazing. Yes, I know about the summer heat (experienced it much as a child) and it never bothered me. I loved it as a child and always envisioned myself living there but that was then and this is now. One way or another I am planning to visit Phoenix at some point in the fall to get a feel for the area as an adult. One of the reasons is I have estranged family out there that I'm currently in the process of trying to reconnect with. Phoenix is one of the cities I'm considering. At this point though I'm so unhappy in OKC that I'm willing to take that risk. Yes, yes, I know the risks of moving without a job and I'm going to make sure I have enough money saved to last me a while if it takes me longer than expected to find employment.

I currently live in Oklahoma City and hate the city with a passion and am desperate to leave, so much so I've set myself an April 2020 deadline even if I have to move without a job. I'm a 33-year old gay man and I work in IT/tech support and I have seven years of experience in the same job.
